What do you think of when you think of Naples Island? If it's the Boat Parade, Pancake Breakfast, Concerts in the Park or Naples Newsletter, then you're thinking of the N.I.A. The N.I.A. is also an advocate within our great city of Long Beach. We work to strengthen our seawalls and we schedule private security patrols for our entire community. It's our involvement that helps make Naples so special. Founded in 1928, the N.I.A. has always been dedicated to the preservation and betterment of our community. Without your support, we could never do the great things Naples is known for. We urge you to send in your annual membership check as soon as possible, and 'thank you' if you have already done so.
A new benefit is our N.I.A. Membership & Discount Card. It's yours with your paid membership. On one side, is a list of participating businesses that are offering discounts to current N.I.A. members. On the other side is a calendar with many of our 2011 events, such as the Pancake Breakfast, Flea Market, Concerts & Boat Parade.

City Council Adds Restrictions to Marijuana Ordinance
Among other restrictions, city parks have been added to the buffer zone that already existed for schools. This will scale back the number of dispensaries in Long Beach, and eliminate them from Naples Island.
City Council to Consider Amending Medical Marijuana Ordinance This Tuesday at 6pm at City Hall
City Council will consider an amendment to the medical marijuana ordinance on Tuesday, November 9th at 6pm at City Hall. The proposed amendment will increase dispensary restrictions. Interested parties are encouraged to attend. You can read the amendment by clicking on the "attachment" link on the following Long Beach City Council legislation information page:
Site of Proposed Re-Location of Marijuana Dispensary Vandalized.
Naples Improvement Association strongly condemns the acts of vandalism that occurred at 2nd and Ravenna.
Emotions are high over the re-location plan, but residents are urged to continue to work through the proper and legal channels regarding this and all issues affecting our neighborhood.
There will still be a hearing about the proposed dispensary, and residents are welcome to attend to voice their concerns at that time. Before then, residents can still write emails to patrick.west@longbeach.gov & district3@longbeach.gov. Residents can also send an email to keepnaplessafe@gmail.com if they would like to find out how to get more involved.
